Craziest Places on Earth that Feel Unreal

With technology taking over and times of dragons and wonder feeling every so distant, magical places feel like a thing of the past. We are here to showcase the beauty and fantasy that is still very much alive in our world. Greenery, castles, mountains that touch the sky is just the beginning. We hope this list reminds you just how much wonder awaits you outside.

1. Tunnel of Love, Ukraine

The name is romantic in itself, so you can imagine just how romantic the place would be in real life. Located in Kleven, Ukraine, it consists of a 4-kilometer long green corridor, created by trees lined up in an arch with the railway in the middle.

The railway was built during the Cold War for military purposes. Trying to hide it, the track was “camouflaged” by trees. Legend says that if you and your partner come to the Tunnel of Love and make it through the 2 mile tunnel together, you will be granted one wish.

A walk through this tunnel surely feels like walking across a fantasy-fiction movie set. The green lush trees and its shapes feel like a walk characters from a magical world would take in their adventure.

2.Lake Hillier, Australia

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when hearing of lakes? If you said blue-green waters, boy do we have a magical surprise. Lake Hillier is perhaps the most unique lake, an entirely pink one. Yes, you heard it right, the water is fully pink.  This lake is one of a kind and feels truly magical. The vibrant colour is permanent, and does not alter when the water is taken in a container. The pink colour is believed to be due to the presence of the organism, Dunaliella Salina. Despite the high salt content levels (comparable to those of the Dead Sea), Lake Hillier is safe to swim in. However, it is not advisable nor allowed without previous approval by the Western Australia Dept of Environment Conservation. Regardless of what has given the lake its hue, it feels straight out of a storybook filled with faeries and unicorns.

3. Door to Hell, Turkmenistan

Well, from faeries and lollipops to hell all in one short list. Known as the Darvaza gas crater, the Door to Hell is a natural gas field that collapsed into a cavern. More specifically, we can say that this eerie place is a miscalculation that left a 70 meters large hole. The site has been burning for more than 40 years now and that’s how it got its name “Door to Hell”. We think that unreal places can be both magical or creepy. Weirdly, there isn’t just one of these doors. In fact, there are a total of 7 gates around the world. Although science has explained why, it still leaves many to wonder. This crazy site makes you think, scientific explanation or a gate to the underworld?

4. Mount Roraima, South America

How often do you get to see a flat tabletop mountain? Well, let Mount Roraima be the first for you. This mountain is known as one of the oldest geological formations we have on earth.

The mountain is surrounded by clouds just below the tabletop that offers an awe-inspiring view. The whole thing looks magical and mysterious. And the best part is, it is surrounded by three different countries: Brazil, Guyana, and Venezuela. Talk about being in the middle of the action. This certainly gives us the feeling of being in a fairy-land. It feels like there should be a kingdom hiding above the clouds.

5. Pamukkale, Turkey

These striking natural hot springs at first glance look like icy pools, but the mineral rich thermal waters of Pamukkale are the perfect temperature for bathing. Terraced travertine basins form natural swimming baths, but there are also blindingly white mineral forests and petrified waterfalls to discover here. There is even a site of an ancient Roman and Byzantine city named Hierapolis. Many believe these ruins are a testament that people have been soaking in these therapeutic waters for thousands of years. In fact, one of the pools even boasts an ancient submerged column as further proof. We recommend checking this wonderful oasis to heal the soul and rejuvenate the mind.

6. Hohensalzburg Castle, Austria

Hohensalzburg Castle located in the Austrian city of Salzburg is one of the largest and best preserved castles in Europe. The castle was constructed in 1077 and was significantly enlarged between 1495 and 1519 when it reached more or less its present proportions. This large medieval fortress sits atop the Festungsberg at an altitude of 506 m. It was erected at the behest of the Prince-Archbishops of Salzburg. We believe the whole atmosphere feels like straight out of a fairytale. In fact, the whole city just has that old kingdom feeling. This is a truly unreal site to see and a great place to get lost in the magic and wonder.
